The Everyday Archive is a new drawing installation by artist Hynek Martinec, an experimental departure from his practice as a painter. Working through a process of sourcing and depicting found materials directly upon the gallery space, this presentation reveals Martinec’s current reflection upon the archive and encounters.

Collected over the duration of three days, The Everyday Archive draws upon mundane materials: a Metro newspaper; a plank of wood discarded by local builders. Martinec’s compositions form the space’s walls, floors and ceilings in a temporary archival process and a style that draws upon the Old Masters, challenging the democracy of the archive and introducing humble materials into social significance.
